How to Get More Views on Instagram Stories

In 2024, stories are the most popular format on Instagram, making up 71.92% of content shared by businesses.

They are a great traffic generator, allow brands to connect with their audience, and they take little effort to create!

Since the benefits to sharing Instagram stories are obvious, let me tell you how you can get more views on yours.

7 Tips to Get More Views on Your Instagram Stories

1. Don’t overwhelm your audience

There’s nothing that will make a viewer exit out of your stories quicker than seeing that there’s a whole saga coming – and it’s not even the Twilight one, booooo. Try to keep the number of stories under 5-10 per day. No one likes a spammer.

2. Utilize engagement stickers

One of the easiest ways to make viewers engaged in your stories is to make it about them. What I like to do is start with a sentence talking about me, and then adding an engagement sticker like a poll or a slider to ask for people’s opinion (see picture below for an example). This makes viewers part of the conversation, but also boosts your engagement rate.

3. Tell a story

It’s…. kinda in the name! 😆 A good way to make viewers watch your stories is to literally tell stories. Something fun happen earlier that day? Had a wholesome review from a client? Share it! Stories are all about getting up close and personal with your audience, and utilizing storytelling principles will make your viewers gobble them up!

4. Engage with your followers

A social media manager friend of mine once said this: “Nobody wants to be friends with someone who never asks how you are.” And it is the perfect analogy to get this point across. The way you will show up higher in people’s story feed is if you interact with them. And the higher you are in the story feed, the more likely people are to see your stories! So comment on people’s posts and reply to others’ stories to boost your own story visibility.

5. Use captions

If you ever share a video of yourself talking, for the love of god pleaseeeeeee add captions. 85% of people (me included) use Instagram with the sound off. If I notice you shared a video where you’re talking but without captions, I am immediately skipping all your stories.

⭐️ PRO TIP: Some accounts (not all, don’t ask me why) have the option to use automatic captions in their stories. You can find these by going to stickers (little square emoji at the top) and “Captions” and they will automatically generate for you.

If you however don’t have the option to generate captions automatically, you’ll have to type them out manually 🥲

6. Let your stories expire

One easy thing to boost your story views is to wait 24 hours after posting the last one. Letting your stories expire makes the algorithm give your stories a boost and lets your followers know there’s something new happening.

7. Change it up

Introduce some kind of variety to your stories. If 4 of your stories follow the same format, people will soon get bored. Try changing up the background photo, color of the text, music, stickers, anything! As they say, variety is the ✨spice of life✨ and the same goes for stories, so change it up!

Conclusion

Stories are a great way to connect with your audience so don’t sleep on them! Once you master them, you can use them to drive traffic to your website/shop and drive your sales! Make sure to stick to these best practices and you’ll be a master STORYteller in no time.
